Review on 🔧 JIG-A-DECK: Ultimate Deck Spacer & Alignment Guide for Wood, Composite, PVC, and Pressure Treated Decking (2 PACK) by Clay Ijaz

Suggested Workarounds

This tool provides accurate decking spacing when you need 1/4 inch spacing. The biggest design flaw is that the light is only 5 1/4 inches long. But most decks - both pressure treated and composite - are 5 1/2 inches wide. Putting two screws in each new plank will result in the screws being unevenly distributed on either side of the joint. The ladder allows for a slight twist so it doesn't always rest directly on the joists. The holes are wide enough to allow for easy removal of the fixture after the screws have been inserted. Workarounds that worked for me: I wanted to decrease the distance between the joints, so I sharpened my fork pliers to 7/32". I used a square on the side of the fixture to ensure the first few rows were square and centered on the beam. I only used the screw holes closest to the handle. For each new plank, I first thread just one screw—the one closest to the previously installed plank—onto the joist. I also put a second screw in the previously installed circuit board. The screw hole in the bracket furthest from the handle was used to align with the screw set in the previous pass to ensure the bracket was not twisted. This meant that for each new board I installed two screws per joist: one into the previously installed board and one into the new board. These screws are reverse-threaded at the top and make an exceptionally clean hole. I adjusted them to 1/2", then removed the bracket and finished installing the screws. Be careful when initially placing the screw to make sure it is centered in the large screw hole on the template. Use these workarounds I got evenly spaced gaps and clear, straight helixes. The decking boards have equally spaced screws on either side of each joint. And that's the basis for a 4 star rating.
