Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Nordic Pure 16X25X1M8 6 Pleated Furnace Filter - Superior Air Quality Guaranteed! by Chad Cross

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Be careful not to set the MERV rating too high

I'm sure these filters are worth more than three stars. They look good and are a great price, but depending on your kiln, not only can you not use too high a MERV rating, you can also damage your gear. If, like me, you've moved into a home with an existing stove and want your air to be as particle-free as possible, but that existing stove didn't come with documentation recommending a MERV rating for your filters. . (By the way, my oven is 9 years old so not ancient, although the plumbing is old.) After trying MERV 12 filters and finding that they put too much strain on my oven, I figured that switching to MERV 10 would help could. It's not like this. For three days my oven was cycled briefly and put under stress. I put in a cheap fiberglass filter and it worked. At this point I thought maybe the squirrel cage fan needed cleaning, so I took it out, cleaned each fan with a toothbrush, put them back in and tried on a brand new MERV 10 from the six pack I had bought. A few days later the same problem. Went to Home Depot to try MERV 3 (although they foolishly don't call them "MERV"; they use Home Depot's own rating system, which to my research is identical to MERV numbers). It took a week for the MERV 3 to score enough points to shorten the oven cycle. So back to cheap fiberglass until I get around to cleaning the air recirculation and seeing if I need to replace the fan motor. By no means do you immediately assume that your oven can handle a filter with a higher MERV rating. Check out the documentation. Ask your HVAC company when they next perform regular maintenance, or purchase individual filters individually. Then write what works for you with Sharpie on Air so you - or the next homeowner - know.
