Review on SIIG Premium HDMI Splitter 60HZ by Steven Notsinneh

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not what I needed. good for satellite tv

I'm sure some of those looking at this splitter like me just got it with a nice new 4K TV and Blu-ray player upgraded only to find that we can't pass the HD audio bitstream to our old 1080 AV receiver. On my new LG OLED TV, the Audio Return Channel (ARC) only sends the main audio (i.e. DTS from DTS HD Master) (Onkyo TX-NR708 AV receiver circa 2010). So I was looking for a way to stream 7.1 DTS HD main audio to the receiver and also send 4K video from the LG U875 UHD Blu-ray player to the TV. It seemed that this splitter's EDID function might help. It's not like this. The Onkyo receiver will only see sound if the EDID is set to 1080, which unfortunately isn't what the TV needs. So in the end I only got sound on the receiver or 4K video on the TV, but not both at the same time. I looked at all available EDID settings for 4K or 1080 and 7.1 audio. Come to think of it, it would make more sense if the EDID switches only acted on one output of the splitter and the other just passed through. Then maybe I could trick Onkyo to see sound but still get 4K video on the TV. Still I gave 3 stars because the quality of the device was good and it worked as a splitter but not for my application.
