Does it work? Yes, technically. However, there are two problems I see so far. First, it's very tough. I have to press hard on him to make him pop out or fall back. It's a little frustrating, but hopefully it will ease up over time. The more serious problem is removing it from the microwave. I've found that with a short cook time it's easy to just pick up and pull out, but I microwaved the soup the other day and when it was done there was a ton of water at the bottom of the lid. . I tried to lift it out of the little notch in the lid, but it was so hot it hurt to touch and I couldn't hold it. Then I tried to lift it at the base and couldn't touch it there either. You would think it was sitting in the oven how hot it was. I ended up taking a butter knife and sticking it in and picking it up and the sheer amount of STEAM that was in it was insane! It burst and hurt my arm because it was so hot. This thing is meant to be vented and has all the little holes in it so I don't understand why that happened, but to be honest I'm a bit scared of using it for anything that cooks longer than a minute and thirty seconds most.
