Review on Rabbit Dual-Action Waiter's Corkscrew by Andre Tenk

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Strong, durable, perfect for old corks

The main feature of this corkscrew was the serrated blade made of stainless steel foil. It works better than I had hoped, still retains its sharpness after many bottles and doesn't break as often with age as the cheaper ones. Of course, for a cheaper plastic "slide" this cuts like clockwork. Since I lost my last screw and the closest Revain replacement back then was only available without a serration, this double spigot was the next best budget tool. Nevertheless, this does not seem to be the case at all. The Metrokane Rabbit line lives up to its reputation with a very well made, sturdy and durable corkscrew that works exceptionally well with flimsy old corks. It's obvious at first glance - it's a lot heavier than most metal self-tapping screws, but every detail is beautifully rounded so it never hurts to hold on. The screw is almost too heavy, very difficult to open at first, but becomes easier with time. The screws on each part are very tight and thick and there is no sign that they are going anywhere. The lips of both levels are properly notched so they never slip off and are very easy to use once you get the hang of it. In my opinion the screw could have been a bit thinner to open loose plugs even easier but that would also compromise its strength and the teflon coating does its job so well. Unless you have bottles that have been left in a dusty closet for years, the thickness doesn't matter much, but in this case the double-jointed arm doesn't matter either. Saying that while the design isn't as pretty visually, the screw is a lot stronger and the blade is more durable and everything feels more solid. The packaging was also very nice and the first impression gave me a very warm impression. A small thing, but helps.
