I do not recommend laser cutting unless they fix the knot problem!

I have used this plywood for laser cutting several times. They have areas of laser resistance, usually fewer than other woods I've bought, but enough to cause problems. I think the problem lies in embedded nodes. These areas are very difficult to cut through with a laser. You can tell if the laser is hitting one of these spots if the smoke/deposit is black, not brown. I've increased the performance a lot compared to simply cutting through a tree, and it still doesn't cut through everything that's in that tree. I've just made my third purchase but I don't think I'll be buying again unless they fix the knot issue. They say it's good for a laser and I would say it's not. All it needs is a small partition and that causes real problems. I just completed 3 tasks and they all ended up in a bad place and they all need careful hand cutting to keep the detail. Even a sharp knife has trouble cutting through. The attached photo shows the black area where he didn't cut. It took me 20 minutes to manually and carefully cut out the piece. It was only about 3/4 inch but enough to ruin the job. The second photo shows the knot and I think the extra glue that goes into the knot during manufacture is at least my theory.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
