My daughter was experimenting with candles for a science project so we worked with soy, paraffin and beeswax. NO RESULTS SOYA was our favorite. It was very easy to work with, had no perceptible odor and was a beautiful milky white color with no additives whatsoever. It also installs very quickly. One criterion I should mention is that you have to center the wick very well, otherwise the wax will melt on the sides. It has a low melting point, so you want it to melt in the middle. If you're making candles in a container, this probably won't be a problem for you. It would be easy to add essential oils or other fragrances as well as colorants.
