The suction power is not strong enough to draw snail shell fragments into the filter, and not enough to be used comfortably in a gravel bottom aquarium; The filter chamber is difficult to remove, and the top and bottom are difficult to remove for cleaning. Some cleats for better grip would have helped. The filter element is almost impossible for me to remove with arthritic fingers. The filter mesh is covered with holes, because when the filter is clogged, the pressure increases, small rivulets of dirty water hit around and I could not remove the mesh from the case for replacement. When digging gravel with a suction pipe, silt-filled water enters the filter chamber, the screen filter does not prevent fine sludge from draining back into the tank, the screen filter does not provide sufficient water purification to return to the tank. This requires using a bent drain hose and removing contaminated water rather than filtering and reusing it. The drain hose was not twisted but kinked, creating kinks that I couldn't get rid of even with heating and stretching, which restricted drain flow.
