I would not recommend this device for three main reasons: 1. The sound quality is quite poor with the internal microphone and speaker. The external microphone and speaker are too bulky for notes.2. Does not work when powered by the USB port. You need to unplug it and run two AAA batteries (inserted backwards) to play or record.3. The USB driver is not built into the firmware, CD, Panasonic or Windows 7. Therefore, it was not possible to use computer software to edit sound or convert sound to text or edit clips in the device. The notes talk about Win2K and XP. I suspect this is a fairly old design and they are not updated with drivers. It's easy to work with. Press record, speak, press stop. Press record, speak, press stop. Each time you press the record button, a new numbered section begins. You choose the clip you want to listen to by spinning the wheel and then pressing the play button. You wouldn't have believed that it was so easy from the full instructions.
