This review is for the Westmark 29272260 Special Gallant Replaceable Wire Slicer. Anyone who has used the Westmark Classic Plain Machine (P/N 71002270) knows that this is the gold standard for cheese slicers. Mine lasted about 7 years and I decided to replace it with a Gallant. The wire on the Galant lasted about 5 months. The included spare wires seemed large, and whether there was a trick to installing them wasn't obvious from the cryptic glyphs in the wordless instructions. I understand it's an international company that doesn't want to translate instructions into 50 languages, but if you're going down that route, your illustrations need to be clearer. got a good tension on the wire and finally cut off half of the screw cap and screwed it in place. I've never been satisfied with a brand's interchangeable wire cheese slicer, but I expected more from Westmark. Good news: I took another look at the classic Westmark food slicer. Turns out you can easily knock out the pins and replace the wire. I used one of Gallant's wires and it works great. I'll call on the Gallant guarantee and let you know how it goes. Note: I hand wash cheese slicers only.
