Thing is great my daughter loved it right out of the box and kept bringing things to put underneath. Comes with drivers for Windows and Mac. I'm not sure if there are any 3rd party drivers for Linux, it's possible since it's basically a webcam. The resolution of this 640 model is 640 x 480 or 0.3 megapixels. Carson also builds the 740. The exact resolution is not specified anywhere, but is said to be 1.3 megapixels; maybe it's equal to 1280x1024 (probably). Carson must specify both models in the same units. If they could confirm the resolution of another model, then the cost of one of them would be 33% higher for a 400% increase in pixel count. If someone were to write a review like this, they would tell me about it. So now you know. Technically, Carson could have built an oscilloscope using existing Mac drivers, but their driver CD was still easy to use. Of course, the only other minor downside is that you need 1000x the power to see bacteria. But it will surely help your child get started.
