Very fine workmanship, high quality wood, very smooth. I just apply a thin coat of primer and then paint my dolls. Will buy again when I've finished my batch! Edit: I wanted to add some details on working with puppets. Keep in mind that while these dolls appear to be made out of good quality wood, they are still porous. When I paint them I cover them with a few coats of acrylic gesso. I use the cheapest acrylic paints you can find at Walmart and usually don't need more than one coat, maybe a few. That way the sealed wood doesn't "eat" your paint. I post a picture. of the finished product to show how well the paint lays on it - in fact I didn't completely sand down the imperfections on the white doll's face with plaster. The doll had no defects. I also used hot glue to attach the crowns - holds up great!
