Review on WEVOVE 6 in 1 Stud Finder Wall Scanner: Locate Studs, Metal, Wire & more! by Jim Agosta

Revainrating 4 out of 5

My building friends say stud finders are of little use.

I move a lot of furniture and do some small construction work around my house so I thought a mandrel finder might come in handy. Here in earthquake country, everything has to be screwed to the wall first. I was particularly concerned about the relocation of the head of the large bookshelf. If it falls, it will be a disaster for everyone sleeping under it. Since we already knew where it was installed, we actually knew how far apart the studs were. So I figured this would be a good place to test the accuracy of a spike finder. So, yes, the spike finder changed color from green to red when it found the spike and chirped. It also flared "edge" when it reached the edge of the hairpin. I could move it up, down and sideways, and the circle got smaller the farther away from the hairpin. However, I couldn't figure out how to calibrate it. I tried to follow the instructions but it was very difficult for me to understand them. I also couldn't figure out what the measurements on the top of the instrument were for. I measured and already knew how far apart the bobby pins were, but it seemed those measurements had to have a purpose. If I didn't know so much about hairpins, I wouldn't know how useful a hairpin search would be. In most buildings, cleats are spaced every few inches. There are many ways to find studs. You can tap on the wall or even use a magnet. I understand that the nail finder reacts to metal, either from the nails themselves or from the nails in the wooden nails. Maybe my builder friends are right and a spike finder isn't strictly necessary. This one seems to be able to find studs - mine studs at least - but time will tell if it will be useful in a place where I don't know where the studs are yet.
