Review on German Cuckoo Clock 8 Day Movement Chalet Style by Shawn Price

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very attractive and excellent workmanship

I received my watch 10 days ago; It was in perfect condition - nothing broken, chipped or lost. The workmanship is superb - the product is really high quality and the sound of the cuckoo is exactly what I expected. The box includes a DVD to help you set up the clock and several videos showing the types of clocks and how cuckoo clocks work. However, DVDs are in PAL format. So unless you have a player that can play PAL discs, it's practically useless. It took me 2 days to adjust the disc on the pendulum to get the clock accurate - now it's no more than a few seconds behind each day. A few words about mounting the clock on the wall: The video says to drive a nail into the wall about 6 1/2 feet off the ground and hang the clock on it. If you do this, the clock will run about 6 days before the weights hit the ground. I set mine about 7 feet off the ground. With the watch fully wound and the weights at the bottom of the watch, I measured 69 inches from the bottom of the weights to the floor. The weight falls about 10 1/2 inches a day. Simple arithmetic suggests that the weights will bottom out well before the clock is 7 days up. Even if you attach the clock to the wall at the top, after 7 days the ring at the other end of the chain will reach the bottom of the clock and the clock will stop. Therefore, it is a complete misconception to sell this as an eight-day watch. Okay, that was more than a few words, but you've been informed. Bottom line: you have to wind it more than once every 7 days, but it's a nice watch and I still like it enough to give it 5 stars.
