Upon unpacking the dead center, an apparent defect was found where the tip was soldered to the main body. However, since I had to use deadlock for some work, I was willing to ignore the error. There was also a noticeable wobble when setting a dead center in the spindle on a lathe and rotating the tip. The dial gauge shows a runout of 0.005 inches, well above the advertised spec of 0.00039 inches. Resetting the spindle dead center to 180 degrees and retesting confirmed that the hit was due to the dead center and not the morse taper in the spindle. I have returned this £5 paperweight to the seller.
