I needed something that would remove most of the water during water changes while removing dirt from the bottom of a 55 gallon tank with no gravel. This is amazing stuff! I was concerned about this at first because most gravel vacuums only work with tanks that have some type of substrate, but I took a chance and I'm glad I did. Worth every penny if you think it's going to save your back: I attached a longer hose I bought from a hardware store and the water and dirt just flies out the window. No more buckets! Like the other reviewer, I had to put it aside after the first try and come back to it the next day. Once I lit it, it worked like a champ, just pulling the water out without having to keep pressing the bulb. I have also used it in my 29 gallon gravel freshwater tank and the vacuum worked far better than any that have been used in the past. In fact, I walked away from it a few times and it kept pumping water on its own even when there was only about two inches left! I don't know if it can move 30 gallons in five minutes, but I've found that the vacuum works faster on a large 55g tank with no substrate than on a 29g tank with substrate. TO BUY! Your back will thank you.
