Check everything before you pick up a scope for the first time. My tripod came with a broken part so I had to swap it out for a new one (painless process). The scope itself is exactly what I was looking for. Took it with my wife over the weekend and couldn't believe how clear the moon was even at low magnification. For the sake of interest, we sent it to Jupiter and saw its four satellites! You and I are just starting out in astronomy, and while this telescope doesn't allow us to see objects in space, it fully meets our needs. I look forward to seeing all the planets and maybe some meteor showers. Overall I was very happy with my purchase. Thanks seller.
