Out of curiosity, we pointed it at Jupiter and saw four of them.

Check everything before you pick up a scope for the first time. My tripod came with a broken part so I had to swap it out for a new one (painless process). The scope itself is exactly what I was looking for. Took it with my wife over the weekend and couldn't believe how clear the moon was even at low magnification. For the sake of interest, we sent it to Jupiter and saw its four satellites! You and I are just starting out in astronomy, and while this telescope doesn't allow us to see objects in

Disappointing, only works for the moon. Higher quality scopes are cheaper

Buy the cheaper Meade 90mm or 102mm instead. This scope can't do what Meade can. This scope has run down products. Waste of money, I threw mine in the trash as I didn't want to donate and disappoint anyone. The two major downsides are the single-stick hand-tracking system and the viewfinder. The mount uses a single handle to manually move the scope horizontally and vertically, rather than two separate mechanical systems for horizontal and vertical control. The rod system made it awkward to get…

swing and miss!: Refractors

With so many good reviews, I'm wondering if I'm standing on a fake. In general, the block was missing some hardware, but I figured out how to get it working. I set it up and started with a 25mm lens. It works well! As others have noted in the reviews, it's difficult to get this device to shift slightly to see objects (up/down and left/right). It was so hard to move at first that I had to press hard on it. Then he became so relaxed that he couldn't take it anymore. I removed a few covers to…

Great tool for science classes, need an equatorial mount for pros

I ordered the telescope well in advance for the Blood Wolf Moon super eclipse earlier this year. Unfortunately the weather is cloudy today. However, this telescope works well and the quality exceeded my expectations. I ran an actual astronomical optical telescope worth millions of dollars many years ago as a college intern. At very low magnification, the image quality when observing the moon is comparable to this telescope. The main difference is the stability of the tripod, at maximum…
