This is a good product if you already have a broadband internet connection and router. I have a Linksys and didn't want to risk anything that works. Some people have complained that you need to change your computer's TCP/IP settings, particularly to allow access to hotspot settings. I found it much easier to change the router's IP address to 192.168.0.1 on the local network (Linksys default is 192.168.1.1). Thus, the fixed IP address of the Dlink access point is compatible with the DHCP addresses provided by the Linksys router. I did this before the Dlink AP arrived in the mail so I was able to just plug in the DWL900AP+ and it worked straight away. without installing anything. Later I wanted to enable WEP encryption, so it took a few more minutes. But overall, with a little planning, the installation went very smoothly. For some reason, as of September 26, 2002, these crates have been hard to find in the distribution channel. I don't know why that could be as they are good products. The range seems as good as I need for a 3000 square meter. Feet and I always get a "great" signal strength indicator on the client's tray icon. The only reason to deduct a star from the rating was that I had to update the firmware from version 1.0 to 2.1 due to reliability issues when loading certain webpages. Hopefully the situation will improve as older devices disappear from the distribution channel.
