Review on πŸ“ˆ Improved SEO: Komelon SM5416 Acrylic Measure with Gripper Feature by Darrell Beecher

A tape measure that isn't trying to kill me

This tape represents a slight but significant improvement over the previous two major brand models that I have owned for over 20 years. Of course it has big numbers in case you go blind, but the real benefit for me is that the retreat speed is much more controlled and slower. This isn't your standard tape measure, where you open up a tape measure and watch it snake its way across the room at top speed before trying to bite your hand and face. Instead, it takes twice as long to break in and doesn't whip in all directions at all. I think this is because the band itself appears to be made from a much heavier and stronger material, so is heavier and doesn't bend as easily. So it picks up speed more slowly and loses speed/momentum on rollback when gravity or air pressure act on it (instead of flexing and holding that momentum when it squirts like sucked spaghetti noodles, it becomes more dangerous with longer tape length) . Such a small change makes a big difference. Another feature I like is that the outer part is mainly made of rubber. Note the clip so you can place it on more delicate surfaces like painted wood without fear. It can also withstand a short fall without the tile breaking. Another small adjustment that makes all the difference.

Pros
  • Comfortable grip, thick rubber sleeve
Cons
  • Doubtful
