The lack of bike parts forced me to spend an extra $30 on this derailleur. I was a little sad until, after installing the Deore, it showed its quality and performance in precise shifting and functionality. Now that I know the difference in this upgrade I will always replace all entry level Shimano derailleurs with this one. There are "better" models. Until race or competition calls for it, you don't need a better Deore for your 7-9 speed shifter. Remember that the cable adjustment is not on the derailleur (many inferior designs are). So if you don't have an adjustment on the derailleur, you'll need to install an in-line adjuster. I didn't need them but found them for about $9 a pair (since many bikes have a front derailleur and readable). Note that shifter cables are 4mm in diameter and I do not recommend using the more common 5mm adjusters made for brake cables.
