There were no written instructions in the box. However, if you're mechanically inclined, this shouldn't be a problem. I realized the vial of red liquid was Loctite, which the description didn't say. Not sure where this should be used. My Ford's original design did not use Loctite anywhere. I would point out that the top mount needs to be angled rather than vertical in order for the piston to have enough travel. The attached picture shows it vertically. If the upper bracket is not angled, the tailgate will not lower fully. This also creates excessive weight/pressure on the piston. There were also no instructions on how to adjust the piston. It's easy when you know it's done by simply twisting the plunger. It's easy when you know! Basically I am satisfied with the product.
