function over beauty. Let's say

This is quite a large addition to my SunSun 704b intake manifold. It's not easy to hide. Its anthracite color doesn't match my filter's other leads and contrasts dramatically with my black background and sides. But boy does it do the job! I set up a new aquarium with African cichlids, mixing in lots of fine white sand. Not wanting all that sand in my canister, I took a chance installing an Eheim pre-filter that matched my SunSun line. After shortening the down tube, he did a great job. The filter consists of two parts that are separated by pressing a light gray button on the front of the filter housing. It doesn't just pop out right away, so a little care is needed to gently wiggle it. Inside is a rough white sponge that appears to be very effective at picking up larger debris as well as fine white sand. Strangely, the upper part collects more dirt while the lower part collects sand particles. I can see where this filter would be very useful for an aquarist with a very large number of animals. You could combine sections from two pre-filters to form four sections. On the other hand, a person with a small tank can only use the top. Very good design. My only moan. make it black
