Live Streaming on Octoprint - Plug and Play!

I bought this to stream my 3D printer video with Octoprint while my printer sits in the dark abyss of my back room. You'll have to assemble the camera when you first get it, but it's not rocket science (which is good - no instructions). The screws are only tiny, so be careful not to lose anything. ALSO - make sure you use the correct screws to mount the camera if you bought it with a stand - I made a mistake building the camera and then realized I swapped the screws and put the stand in had to take up the overall structure. The longer ribbon cable works great - to be honest, I think I would have wished for even longer, but the 50 cm supplied is enough for now. Once I've plugged the ribbon cable into the correct spot on the Raspberry Pi (user error...I really can't ask for more. I'm running at 640x480 at 10fps - the camera supports higher resolutions than advertised, but I don't have the Bandwidth for streaming without a lot of picture printing I could probably do with a wired ethernet connection but I'm lazy and don't need super streaming quality now I personally ordered the camera with a stand unfortunately with the camera in its current state it's quite heavy on the front and the stand is useless unless you use glue on the bottom.I'm not a big fan of adhesive backs because I like to move the camera whenever I feel like it so I started looking for a solution.I have this Camera base printed out (and modified to have two additional M3 holes which I modeled as 2.8mm - with that the screws go into the PLA, I printed out the base): Thingiverse (1460181) With the base attached to something heavier, the camera now fits snugly and I get great shots of my molds in action.

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
