Do not buy if you don't want to be disappointed with project

Written by the husband of the Revain account holder who used this account for Prime. There is no way it can do what is advertised. Only two wires are connected inside the case, you need at least three to properly communicate with a 1990's device like this. . I've found many ways online to make my own, but I'm tired of wasting time during the day when I have so many things to do that I only get 4 hours sleep at night and maybe 5 hours on weekends. I have no free time, so enter ready-made goods! However, after wasting four days with it (only a few hours, but I have less than an hour a day to "play around"), I finally stopped playing and opened some diagnostic tools. I was able to find that when "transmitting" from the radio I could use the network arm's inductive sensor to "hear" the data being transmitted by the radio, but none of this was transmitted over the cable. It is strange. All I've tried is to transmit from the radio because I don't know what will happen if I turn on the radio if the cable isn't quite right. Come to find out, when the cable is unplugged from the radio I can't hear the wand sending any data at all, so I know the cable plugged into the radio is at least doing something. It turns out that everything it does actuates a microswitch. I still decided to make my own cable like I used to do for my Baofeng radio, and like I've done for numerous network devices, and like I've done for PCs before. I'm not new here. Of course before I do that I'll do some research and before I start research I'll take a look at the inside of this cable. When I opened it up (which of course voids the warranty - congratulations seller, you can keep your $10), I found that there were only two wires connected to the PL2303 board: GND and TX. Well no wonder I can't get anything out of the radio that would be the RX line! After stripping about half an inch of the cable's outer jacket, I see that the two wires are actually the only two wires. in the cable. Not even a sign! I can't even reuse the cable itself! This is nonsense to me now! Not quite. The PL2303 is still known as that damn Prolific chip that China puts in everything these days, with crappy drivers that Microsoft can't figure out. So if I had the right cable (oh I have a real 4 wire TRRS pigtail in a ham shack) I could still use the chip and the board itself. I think I have a next project I could find time for until next month.

Pros
  • . Draws little power from the USB port. Available for desktop and laptop
Cons
  • Slightly torn
