Review on Secure your gear with Thule 538XT 6-Feet One-Key System Cable Lock by Brandon Guidroz

Design flaws affect security

I liked the other Thule products I've bought so I bought two of these cables to take advantage of the One Key system. Upon receipt of the cable, it was found to have a serious design flaw that reduced safety. In the closed position, the lock cylinder can be easily pulled out with a standard assembly key to expose the interior and then unlocked with a screwdriver. I tried several different lock cylinders on both cables to make sure it wasn't a faulty part and all had the same effect. After taking measurements and carefully studying the design, it became apparent that this was a design flaw of the casting itself, common to all of these cable locks. I even went so far as to contact Thule directly. They didn't really believe me until I sent in a video proving I was right. Now they have admitted that this is a design flaw, but they will not change it. It should be emphasized that this only seems to be an issue with these cable locks. I have checked my Thule bike rack, hitch lock and snowboard rack and they are all fine. Just don't waste your time with them.
