Not intended for RV drinking water - odor and connection dimensions

Conclusion: Does not have a thread for connecting to a garden hose connector like a RV. And they test them with DIESEL and the smell is hard if not impossible to get rid of. I don't know if it affects the taste. I bought this after trying one of the cheap $15 plastic bottles. It immediately failed electronically; and every time I plugged it in I worried that it might damage the plastic. A few positive reviewers said something along the lines of "for this price if it breaks just throw it away and get another" but I wanted something more reliable and figured that was it. The first problem is my fault, not the reason for the low price. Valuation. I didn't look closely enough to see it was a 1" pipe thread. I also didn't realize it would need 2 adapters on each end to fit a drinking water hose; You should have a 1 inch adapter. to a 3/4" pipe thread, then a 3/4" pipe thread to an adapter with a 3/4" garden hose thread on each end. I immediately caught the smell of diesel fuel and saw it in the Q&A "that they are tested with diesel fuel. I have no idea why diesel instead of some other type of alcohol that evaporates quickly and leaves no odor. Okay I thought I'd just clean it up to get rid of the diesel. Not that easy , it seems. I removed the electronics (like you're changing batteries) and soaked it in whatever I thought would work for days: vinegar, alcohol, baking soda and water, lemon juice and water, and it always smelled yet. So I filled a 5 gallon bucket with each of the above items and water (separately) I pumped through hundreds of gallons thinking it would get rid of the smell. At first I thought I was making good progress but after When I took it out and let it dry for a few days, the smell of diesel is as strong as ever. The only thing I can think of is that it soaked the nylon/plastic impeller and won't come out. Again, I don't know why they use diesel for testing. I tested it and while you can recalibrate it, it felt very good for my accuracy. And it feels really solid and well made, I think it will last a long time. Having invested almost as much in matching adapters as I did in a meter I would buy another if I could get hold of one that hasn't been tested on a diesel! I think there is a market for them in the RV world, especially when they come with garden hose threaded fittings. If there is such a device, I would like to know. I would definitely give it five stars if it wasn't diesel tested!

Pros
  • Intuitive reading, high reliability, Β±1% measurement accuracy
Cons
  • No instructions
