This thing's range is amazing, but there are two big problems. First, when you extend a retractable pole to its full length, the sections near the retrieval end are so small and the metal so thin that sooner or later it will break. Yesterday I tried half a dozen different ponds on the course and every time I tried to grab the ball it only pushed deeper into the soft muddy mud and the water fogged up so I couldn't make it. second try without waiting for the water to run clear. The principle of this device is that you have to place a white plastic circle on top of the ball and when you apply light pressure it is an inner ring that is spring loaded and pops around the bell and snaps but with a soft muddy bottom it does pushes. It's deeper in the dirt and the inner ring and spring never fire to catch the ball. That's the main reason I'm returning this retriever and instead buying one that has a metal claw mechanism that doesn't require you to mount it on a ball like this. With the claw, I can position the metal claw vertically and slide it down around the ball, applying any amount of pressure on the ball, and then I can close the metal claw on the sides of the ball and lift it out of the pond.
