The device has a fixed focus. Essentially, you adjust the magnification to bring the subject into focus. If you change the magnification, the object will be blurred. You have to move the camera closer or farther to adjust the focus, or just set the zoom that gives you the best focus. On a PC you see an image that you cannot adjust. When using the mobile app over a direct Wi-Fi connection, you can use your fingers to zoom in and out in real time. This does not change the actual magnification. It's the same as taking a photo and then using your phone or computer to zoom in and out. With the base and hand I can capture part of a coin, I can't get the camera high enough to capture a whole penny. The arm bends a little, but it's not easy to lower and keep it at the same level. What it does for the price is acceptable.
