This instrument is an ancient method of measuring viscosity. It is based on Isaac Newton's law of viscosity. This is the manual way to do it. While I think it's a little pricey, it's a cheaper option than spending over $400 on a digital viscometer. The quality seems to be good. It's made from nice, solid materials like brass and beaker aluminum. The stand is very secure. It has a built in spirit level, a ruler for measuring and a stopper/lock that keeps the solution on the top (brass) cup. Once the brass bowl is full, simply move the latch and start the timer at the same time to start the test. We had a hard time understanding the chart and how to actually get the correct test timeout readings. This would be better for those already familiar with Newton's viscosity method.
