The Orbit Trackball is a product that will remind those of us who remember the classic trackballs of the 80's and 90's. Will I still use a regular laser or optical mouse - maybe, but this answer depends on the situation (i.e. looking for pixels). Now if I were to say that this product performs decently in both everyday tasks and casual gaming. I've played Mass Effect I and had no problem taking out geth, but things can get quirky in other games like Civ: Beyond Earth. The reason I say the ball is squirrel is because the ball is sensitive to the slightest movement, so an accidental sneeze or a leaping cat could shake the building's placement. As for shape and form, well, it's weird. This is weird because the ball is in the center and I remember my trackball pointing the mouse at the thumb area. Yes, one could point out that Logitech offers a more classic thumb trackball, but I haven't tried it and this Orbit trackball was cheaper. Another annoyance is that this version lacks a scroll wheel. There is now another version of this mouse with a scroll wheel, but I've read that it doesn't offer smooth scrolling. The design of the product makes the trackball itself vulnerable to external forces such as curious cats. If the trackball could be secured with a retaining ring, such external forces would be mitigated. In short, it offers a classic user experience at a lower price. Please enjoy the photos.
