Review on 📦 Unfinished Wood Cornice Box with Hinged Lid by Walnut Hollow - Ideal for Arts, Crafts, Hobbies, and Home Storage by Dawn Fischer

PROS: (1) UNIQUE SIZE: The dimensions of this box are quite unique. I've been looking for a box of this size for a long time and couldn't find the exact size information. Specifically, the outer dimensions of the box are 12 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 3.75 inches deep. The internal dimensions of the box are 11 inches long, 8 inches wide, and 2.75 inches deep. ________________________________________________ AGAINST: (1) PLYWOOD: In the product photos (and in the seller's description), this box appears in the photos to be of higher quality, or at least not made of plywood. However, it is only textured plywood (e.g. walnut plywood). Because this box is plywood, it has unsightly wood defects. These spots appear more pronounced when the box is painted. (Please see the photos below to see the defect I am describing). (2) SPLITTING THE CORNERS: When I was painting the box, the corners of the box split because they were just glued together. Crates are usually fastened with corner joints. I have never seen a box sold professionally that was only glued on all sides. This unprofessional construction resulted in the box tearing at the corners after soiling. In addition, the glue does not stain, so the edges of the box appear white. (3) UNEVEN CLOSING: The box closes unevenly, probably due to split corners. In fact, the hinges appear to be offset by about 1/4 inch. (3) WEIGHT: The box is very light as it is made of plywood. Since I was hoping for a sturdy box to store the game in, the weight of the box was a real issue. _______________________________________ GENERAL INFO: This box is great for painting as the paint can reinforce the glued corners. However, if you are going to stain the wood or leave it unfinished, I suggest you look elsewhere. The box is made out of cheap plywood and I'm sure you can find something better for your needs.
