Review on Enhanced Universal Car DVD GPS Player Steering Wheel Remote Control (2018) - Audio Volume, Phone Answering/Hanging Up, Bluetooth, and More! by Daniel Reeder

Ideal. once you understand what it is and what it isn't

This is NOT a universal, infrared or bluetooth remote control but a pair of remote control and receiver that allows you to make some receivers that have a SWC (steering wheel control) input. There doesn't seem to be a standard for resistor values using SWC inputs, so it may or may not be compatible with your receiver. If that's not the case, there are 3rd party adapters (like Metra Axxess) that can do the conversion - I rolled up my own. Compatibility issues aside, the device itself worked flawlessly. With 5 buttons and a rotary volume control, I had access to my receiver's most common functions, and being able to turn the knob instead of pressing a button to adjust the volume was a huge plus for me. The remote has a small LED that flashes when the receiver hears a command (not just when it's being sent) so you know it's working. The controls matched my aging Subaru's steering wheel perfectly, although you should try a few different spots until you find the one that works best for you and your driving habits. About a month later the block died which was very disappointing to me. Thinking it might just be the battery, pulled the old one out and the little metal clip touching it fell out too. Took me five minutes to solder it back in and now the unit is working great again. Bottom line - if that's what you want to buy, this is the perfect example. But if you prefer IR or Bluetooth, that's not the option. Follow up after a few months - if you really need to fix the battery clip make sure you resolder both - otherwise just do it again in a few months.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • I will add it later
