The antenna itself feels very solid and is made of quality materials. The antenna was mounted on a 22 foot deck boat and the fiberglass face is approximately 1/4" to 3/8" thick. The length of the mounting bolt barely went through the surface far enough to screw in the top of the antenna. In fact, I had to leave the bottom of the mounting base to expose enough threads. Once installed it seemed to work very well and connect to numerous stations. Without an antenna, the radio would not receive a single station. Apart from the problem with the mounting bolt, the purchase is very satisfied.
