In the winter here in Alaska, the birds don't get "fresh food". It's nice to be able to feed them worms in the middle of winter. I still think they prefer seeds to these, but they nibble on them for a change. They are perfectly preserved and have a good texture. Most larvae appear in the form of a slurry. In fact, they still keep their original shape and look like larvae. The birds seem to like them, although I don't think rarer birds are attracted to them. It's just something extra to give the birds some variety. My birds love it and I'm sure other birds in the middle of winter will find it a welcome relief too.
