Review on CKL 4 Port KVM Switch Dual Monitor DisplayPort 4K 60Hz: Unprecedented Multi-Computer Control with Audio, USB 2.0 HUBS, and DP 1.2 by Christopher Lance

The expected speed could not be reached; Cables often need to be reinstalled

I bought this to run 2 monitors (Dell S2417DG) at 1440p at 120hz each (these are 144hz monitors but for this unit I dropped them down to 120hz). This is within the specs for DisplayPort 1.2 (same pixel-per-second requirements as advertised for 4k@60hz) so I assumed it would be fine. Unfortunately the product did not live up to expectations. Whenever I tried to run the monitors at 1440p@120hz, the image would cut off immediately. 1440p at 90Hz worked, but it's well below the speed that DisplayPort 1.2 can handle. But even if the desired speed is not reached, the monitors still turn off occasionally. To restore functionality, the monitor's DisplayPort cable had to be unplugged and plugged back in. That wasn't acceptable to me, so I did some troubleshooting. It seems that incorrect DisplayPort cables that are out of specification or of poor quality can cause problems. It didn't look good considering I used the cables they provided, but I assumed that was the problem and ordered a full set of 6 DisplayPort 1.4 cables (this is fully backwards compatible with DisplayPort 1.2) from Club3D, who are known for high-quality DisplayPort cables. This didn't solve the problem. The exact problem still occurred in exactly the same way. I give 2 stars despite my negative experience because I could just get a bad block. It's also possible that there is some odd conflict between this device and my particular monitor model. However, I think it's better to just buy another product, hopefully one that's DisplayPort 1.4 based (so I can actually run my monitors at full 1440p at 144Hz) than keep messing around with it. These older DisplayPort 1.2 devices don't seem to meet most people's needs, especially for gaming. It definitely didn't work for me.
