Review on πŸ”§ PQY Engine Valve Spring Compressor Tool - Compatible with Ford Mustang GT 4.6L 5.4L 3V Explorer Trac - Magnetic Screw Retainer (Blue) by Mark Cai

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good tool, allows 3V valve springs to be made with the cylinder head built in, but fittings.

The product arrived quickly and corresponds to the description. Sturdy instrument frame design, beautiful anodized finish and fine workmanship. But that would be a 5 star rating, but also close to a 2 or 3 star rating, see below for details. The hardware leaves a lot to be desired, the bolts for attaching the tool frame to the cylinder. The head is not long enough to properly engage the aluminum cylinder threads. Head, the included screws only engage 3 or 4 threads. Instead I used cam cap bolts to eliminate any possibility of damaging the cam cap mounting threads. The rounded end of the compression screw that fits into the spring compression tool had an issue that I had to fix before using it. It turned out that making a rounded tip deformed the threads on the tip itself and prevented the lag screw from threading into the frame. Unfortunately I didn't have a properly threaded metric die to thread, but luckily I found a properly threaded nut and used it to screw back onto the tip of the lag screw. Getting the jackbolt to slide smoothly into the frame, some lube on the threads and the spring compressor where the bolt engages, the tool worked very well. better than i expected. You will need to apply some lubricant to the threads of the screw and the tip of the clamp screw for smooth operation. I was originally going to give this tool a 3 star rating due to hardware issues, but once I started using it and how easy it was to get valves working on those nightmarish 3 volt motors, it deserves 4 stars. This would have been a 5 star rating if it weren't for the initial hardware issues. PQY, I hope my issues were unique to the tool/device I received. If not, make sure to stamp the threads of the pressure screw with a die after rounding the tip to avoid this problem for future customers.
