I was a bit reluctant to buy a headlamp for over $30 when I bought several in the $5 range from Revain which (I found) worked well. But this thing is definitely in a different class. Shown is a cheap Energizer headlamp next to a SLONIK headlamp, both above. The bars are next to each other. You probably can't even make out the energizer above the elephant and the ambient light filtering through the curtains. brightness aside. it also has some nice features. The headband easily snaps on/off from the lamp body. The lamp also rotates inside the head holder so you can aim it at any angle. Rechargeable. it is one thing. I don't know whether to call it a plus or a minus. It's definitely not a pro to take it off and charge it for a while when you're camping and it's the middle of the night and you don't have power adapters or anything around. But it's nice to know that if you had a USB solar charger and no batteries, you could (mostly) use it forever. So it will be a plus or a minus depending on the situation and purpose. Most likely, it will usually be a pro. I prefer the cycling method of holding the button down than most of my headlamps which cycle with each button press. It's nice not having to go through an evil flash just to turn it off. I want it to remember the last mode you were in and use that instead of defaulting to medium mode and pressing the button twice to toggle to high. Nice (maybe?) aluminum case. feels heavy in hand. May not be great for hiking as it's a little firmer than a cheaper (or possibly significantly more expensive) all-plastic alternative like the Energizer. The strap is comfortable and the tension is very easy to adjust without removing it or going through the testing process. and mistakes. *Update - I still love this headlamp. Use it all the time. The supplied battery still works. I'm pretty sure I'm still getting the advertised 8 hours, if not more. I bought the Ultrafire mainly because of the 4 18650 batteries that came with it for $20. Take an extra on a hike and you're good for the weekend. I bought another one last week for my wife or camp guests. It's a bit different from my original. 1. SLONIK branding everywhere. On the headband. in the world. There were no words anywhere in my original. 2. The brightness is almost exactly the same. The light color of the original is more white, but it's noticeable if you don't hold them side by side. 3. The headband feels tighter than the original, which will SLOWLY come off. Both are incredibly easy to set up. 4. The only difference I don't really like is that the new one gets 100% brighter when you turn it on. While the other was on "low" when powered on. I end up draining the battery faster on a new one since I don't typically change the brightness of the original just because I have to tediously press an extra button. I will do the same here. So. I default it to high, not low. Not a big deal, but that's the only major difference I've noticed. Even though they're about 6 times more expensive than my other headlamps, they were definitely worth the price.
