I've danced ballet all my life but now in my 40's I'm trying tap dancing These shoes are of good quality. The leather wasn't stiff and they didn't feel plastic - I don't have enough experience to judge the sound quality of the taps. The shoes were comfortable the first time I put them on. the size is bigger than my normal size. I usually wear medium 7.5 shoes and have tried both 8 and 8.5 in these blochs based on other reviews. The 8.5 was definitely too big for me, especially in the toe area. The 8 even had more room, so I wear them with a thin sports sock. I could probably get by with my regular 7.5 wearing just tights, but I think the extra room of 8 is good in case my legs swell a bit while dancing. I think if you have wide or very square toes you may need to go up a full size.
