If you live in the US Southwest, the recommended temperature range shifts towards the red and blue compared to the UK. It's been a few years since I've had a chain and shaft drive bike. Rather than worry about adding chain lube for multi-day trips, I find Scott Oiler to be a good way to lubricate your chain. This first reservoir refill was in the range of 2500 miles at a recommended drip rate of approximately 1 drip per minute. The unit itself is chunky in appearance, but fits easily under the side panel, so I have no comments on fitting it into my case. Chain maintenance boils down to a weekly tension check and fits in well with my tire pressure maintenance routine. In my case, monthly tank checks are sufficient, unless the above trips take place, then just keep an eye on the fuel consumption. Actually that's part of the time and mileage of course, but it says I spend most of my time at speeds of 60-85mph since this is a road bike. Price. The idea is that instead of trapping the sand and forming a lapping joint, the oil releases the sand at the contacting surfaces. I don't ride in particularly sandy conditions (sometimes a short dirt road or driveway) and just don't see the need to add a "clean" mode with a modern sealed X-chain just yet. Simply wiping down the rim, spokes and turning radius does a good job of preventing dirt build-up and again goes very well with a weekly pressure check. Much like "oil flows" on the internet, this is incredibly divisive when discussing chain maintenance. For me it was an improvement in the use of the bike.
