I confess I have tried to buy another machine from a very well known kitchen appliance manufacturer. In fact, I tried *twice* and missed this little beauty because I was influenced by this famous brand. The first manufacturer of this famous brand came with the inside of the cylinder so badly dented that it took the shape of a pentagon instead of the round inside as you might expect I sent it back. If you can't put the hat on because it's badly wrinkled, what else would you do with it? A second arrived, and this time it wasn't dented in the pentagonal cylinder. This one had a triangular shape on the inside and had the same problem: I couldn't put the lid on. I sent it back. On the third try I settled on this little red beauty - Maxi-Matic. I have to say it's downright cute, but cute will never be enough to sell anything or convince me it's useful. This time I was pleasantly surprised! The first serving of ice cream didn't impress me that much. Ice crystals formed which made the ice cream taste a little flatter than the rich, creamy ice cream I was looking for. A small change of mind and searching for other recipes on the internet instead of the manufacturer's recipes solved the problem. Rich and creamy? Add some eggs and voila! Rich and creamy! Before I make ice cream in the machine, there's one more thing I do: I beat the eggs and sugar until it's a nice thick mixture, and then I add the heavy cream and milk and beat it well. I then put the bowl in the freezer for about 3 hours and then take the cylinder out of the freezer and put it together by pouring the mixture in enough to allow it to spill in the machine. It takes me a few extra minutes plus freezing time to make a wonderful ice cream like this, rich and *minus* the chemicals store bought ice cream. To me? It's worth the cheap price and my health. I'm excited about the car. What about "easy to clean"? *Cylinder* easy to clean. Likewise the paddle. engine cover? If you make too much ice cream in the machine and the excess ends up between the lid and motor, that's a different story. I really can't figure out how to separate them to clean this area! That's the only reason "easy to clean" has 4 stars instead of 5. Still, it's an amazing machine!
