I'm not a seamstress but I've had to fix a few different items that required me to rethread the drawstring or elastic (loose sweatpants drawstring). and replacing the elastic cord for the rim of the steering wheel cover (original wasn't very strong and broke) I tried to find a suggestion on the internet to use a safety pin to thread the cord but it took an incredible amount of time and in the event of one very narrow hole in the steering wheel cover, it was very hard on my fingers. I've tried, I may never need them again, but they were cheap, very smart, and easy to throw in a sewing kit in case I ever need them again. They were still quite hard on my fingers and if you have weakness or arthritis in your hands you will find them a bit difficult/uncomfortable but not as difficult as using a safety pin.
