Review on πŸ” Celestron 71238 EclipSmart Solar Binoculars 10x42, Black by Quinton Wonsley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Clear, sharp image of our star - not only for observing solar eclipses, to use all year round!

The quality of the Celestron EclipSmart 10x42 Solar binoculars is exceptional. The sun is focused in a very sharp sphere and is almost natural in color (only slightly bluish); The optics are excellent, which is what I would expect from a Celestron product. Although I bought binoculars for the 2017 solar eclipse, these binoculars are also useful before and after an eclipse. If you are interested in sun gazing all year round, this is the cheapest way to observe the sun. Advantages: - Excellent optics. - Filters convey a pleasant level of color and brightness. You can look at the sun for a while without straining your eyes (although I recommend wearing a veil to block out the sunlight around you). - Smooth center control with diopter compensation for the right eye (for people with differently focusing eyes). - Very high quality design, fit and finish. - They feel very durable and have a good grip thanks to the rubberized cover. - Tripod mount! Unscrew the cap with the Celestron logo (in front of the center focus) and buy an inexpensive binocular adapter stand. With an adapter, you can fix the position in the sun so casual observers can observe the sun without having to manually locate the sun. They stand out like obvious solar binoculars. I reckon people will easily think you're crazy just looking at the sun through ordinary binoculars. Or, worse, accidentally encourage a less knowledgeable person to mimic you with ordinary binoculars. :-O- Filters are not removable. Or at least not easy to remove. It doesn't have to be "against". In fact, it's probably a good thing binoculars only have one purpose, to avoid making a silly and irreparable mistake. Given their purpose, it would be nice if Celestron included a tripod adapter. Overall I am very happy with this purchase and look forward to using them in Wyoming for all to see. (Black) . This small plug is recommended to make it easier to find and to fix it in the sun for a long time. I also use Gosky Gosky universal cell phone adapter compatible with binocular monocular spotting scopes, telescopes and microscopes for iPhone, Sony, Samsung Moto, etc. Record the Nature of the World cellphone adapter to connect my smartphone to one of the eyepieces.* EYE DAMAGE NOTICE*Question: Why can't I use regular binoculars to view the sun when I wear goggles to view a solar eclipse? I've been asked over and over again if it's possible to use regular binoculars to view the sun when wearing eclipse goggles. I can't stress this enough. NO NO NO! You can not do it! Attempting to do this will permanently damage your eyes as regular binoculars concentrate enough sunlight to instantly burn through ANY eclipse lens. If you want to see the sun up close, you'll need to buy custom-made binoculars that filter the sunlight BEFORE it enters the optics. I hope this public warning will save at least one person's sight. :) *BEWARE OF EYE DAMAGE*
