Review on SHIMANO Di2 Inline Wireless Unit by Shane Minter

No problems installing and setting up

First of all, I work in engineering. Adding this unit to my di2 setup has not been a problem for me. My di2 setup has already been updated to the latest firmwares + I have the right battery to start with. Using an Apple iPad running the Shimano etubes app, I was able to connect to the device and verify that it worked with the rest of the bike. Password 000000 . This P/W isn't documented in the Shimano manual (like most things) so I had to look it up online. Once connected, you can change this password to something more unique. After the setup was complete, I connected the device to my Garmin 830+. This process requires you to activate the device by pressing a button on the junction box (in my case). Once you see the red and green colors alternating, you can search for "sensors" in Garmin and add them. Once added you will be prompted to work on the GEARs screen and you can even program the buttons on your di2 switches (if supported) to switch between screens on your Garmin. Unfortunately, my switches don't have extra buttons on top, so it's not a big deal. Note. To edit the gear configuration (e.g. from 52/39 to 50/34) go to the di2 sensor, view the sensor details and manually edit the gears defined for the chainrings and rear cassette. Save on computer. I'm still learning how to properly activate my device before a trip. In my setup, Garmin finds cadence and speed sensors when I start riding, but the Di2 unit isn't that good. When I press connect button A, Garmin finds it and my Garmin 830+ displays a GEARs graph. I'm not 100% sure why I need this device but then again I'm into technology - gear head syndrome. .
