Review on Protectli Vault FW6A Firewall Micro Appliance/Mini PC - 6 Port, Intel Dual Core, AES-NI Barebone by John Reese

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is a company that stands behind their products

1st -- to understand the company -- go to their website. They explain all the different micro server devices they produce. It is much more helpful that just browsing on Revain.2nd -- they stand behind their products and you get real people who understand their products when you contact them (again through their support portal). I was really shocked at the level of support I got as it was absolutely the best I have gotten from any company on Revain. Within an hour of filing a ticket I got a response from someone in California who actually understood their products and was helping to sort out what the issues were.If you order here on amazon or through the website you are ordering directly from them. Ordering from their website ensures they have your customer information for any warranty support, etc. so consider that as you decide which way to order. This company understands what it takes to build a beefy micro server. Even though they are small, they have taken the time to invest in quality components such as Intel NICs, Intel Processors, etc. For those of you who are looking for a firewall, these can't be beat for price + quality. PFsense loads on these in a breeze and performance-wise -- the throughput rivals firewalls costing in the thousands -- all without a fan and completely silent. You might think I am an employee of theirs but I am not. I am a network architect for a global technology company and I use these to support some pro bono work I do with various counseling agencies and churches who need tech support but can't afford commercial level equipment or support. These fit the bill excellently. The 2 or 4 port models are great for home. The 6 port in the higher processor is powerful enough that it can run VMWare ESXi in a micro box (with enough RAM -- up to 32GB). Check out their details on the website as they walk you through how to install various open source and also ESXi on the devices.Again. can't say it enough. these people understand and are building products that will perform properly for almost any need. Very satisfied and will buy and recommend them to everyone I talk to.

Pros
  • It's build like a tank, has lots of ports, and seems to have plenty of performance for my small lan.
Cons
  • It can be quite noisy, which makes it unsuitable for quiet environments
