Bought to replace my years old feather punch that fell on concrete and cracked the tip leaving behind and pinching the tip's threaded rod. What I noticed is that the shaft and tip move a lot more than my broken shot, even though the design looks the same. Additionally, the Heavy/Light setting doesn't greatly affect the depth of the mark left when punching through aluminum and wood. The internal mechanism and arrangement of the springs in the new punch is different. The picture that includes the ball bearing is a disassembled new spring stamp. The old model does not use ball bearings.
