Review on ⏲️ MakerHawk Time Delay Relay: 12V 5V USB Controller Board with LCD Display for Delay-Off Timer Control Switch by Justin Guldin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well and easy to program, well at least after a few videos

I was looking for a module that would work by simply pressing a momentary button. Simple circuit closure between two terminals on the circuit board. In my case this is a human operator pressing a key, this operator doesn't have to care about the delay or the exact activation time. This is done with a so-called low-voltage trigger. I needed a timer that when triggered would be delayed by a programmed time while the relay is still at rest. In my case I wanted this time to be 4 seconds. After waiting 4 seconds I wanted the timer to activate the relay which would close the normally open side of the relay for the programmed time. In my case, I needed this time exactly 2.75 seconds. At 2.75 seconds, I needed the relay to return to its relaxed state. I wanted to be able to program it in my workshop via a micro USB connection, but later when installing it in the field I wanted the device to run off a 12V DC battery. The device is sealed in a closed control box. The box can be opened, but this is a tedious process due to specific mounting distance issues. Programming the P4 with OP time 02:75 and CL time 04:00 gave me the desired results. When running, P4 cannot loop, so it only runs once and then turns off the relay. If the device fires again, it will fire P4 again and only once for each trigger. For a video on how to use and program this unit, go to YouTube for the XY-LJ02. This is the manufacturer's part number for this device. There are several videos and after spending some time watching them you should be able to understand how it works. Unfortunately there is no printed manual included with the unit, however there are printed manuals available on the internet, search again for the XY-LJ02 and you will find some resources. Some of them will be good, others won't make much sense, you have to sort them for your end use. The relay is resistant to slight vibrations and does not cause problems with false alarms. I don't know if moderate or strong vibrations cause problems. The device uses very little power and heat is not important for my application.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Operating Speed
