Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 590-001 Fuel Pump Driver Module for Select Models (OE FIX): Enhanced Performance and Durability by Justin Anderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product, easy installation, don't forget to fuse if it doesn't work at first.

My dad's trusty 2006 Ford Expedition started to shake a little but then seemed to disappear. I'm a backyard mechanic handling oil changes and such. I had already changed the spark plugs at 100,000 miles (on a hot engine, impact wrench method which works great btw) so I knew it wasn't the spark plugs. Maybe it was the coils, now at 126k I think it would be wise to replace them now. But after a couple of days it stalled while driving and towed it to my house with its AAA card. Replacing the fuel pump drive module was pretty easy for me, just drop the spare tire, find the module. mounted on the frame on the driver's side, loosen the screws outside the frame, push the plug, pull out the plug, pull out the old block. The old block had a perforated metal backing. I stuck a screwdriver in the perforation to see how bad it was. The substrate couldn't stand it, and the circuit board had obvious damage and an unpleasant odor. I installed the new block with the double ended studs that came with the kit instead of the rubber bushings and screws as I didn't think I could hold the bushings. on site. I pocketed it and then with a big smile on my face went to light it ready to hear the vroom. But no vroom. It didn't start. WHY?! After pacing up and down the driveway about 2 or 3 times (okay maybe 10) I decided to check the fuses, it might have been the fuel pump fuse that had blown. Yes, #12 is a 15A fuse. Now it is clear that water got into the module, it closed, the fuse blew. Just changing the module is only half the problem. The other half of the work is the backup. No big deal, mind you, but it just had to be done. I found the fuse panel to the right of the passenger seat bottom on the side. With all that knowledge, I could do the whole job in about 30 minutes or less. But this fuse freaked me out for a while. Now, of course, it makes sense in hindsight. The truck is great again - the only things it's needed so far are 100,000 plugs and a rear transmission seal, which was pretty easy too. Not bad for 126,000 km.
