If you don't mind grinding for hours, cordless grinders are the best choice. While I prefer the simplicity of a random orbital sander with pre-made velcro pads, your options are limited. This is where the good old palm leaf grinder comes into play. While it requires a bit more tweaking, trimming the sheet of sandpaper and punching holes for dust removal (optional), it offers many more options. up to 220 or 320 grit at most stores. However, you can find up to a thousand grit sandpaper, which is necessary for polishing metal. Sheets of sandpaper are also quite cheap compared to orbital pads. And finally, they are suitable for processing right angles where a rotary random orbital sander cannot. So while I still reach for my orbit most of the time, that's a huge compliment to her.
