Review on Unlock in Style: August Home AK-R1 Smart Keypad, Dark Gray - Effortless Access Control by Trey Harvey

A must have if you want to buy an August smart lock. But no remote update

The keypad is a must if you are looking to buy an August Smart Lock. The idea of always having a charged phone with you to answer the door seems like a commonly misguided idea. I've had the keyboard and smart lock for about 2 months now. That's the problem. IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK! I know I'm entering the code correctly, but sometimes it just flashes and doesn't do anything. I'm waiting. I'll try it again. Nothing. Once again. Nothing. Finally, I pull out my phone, wait for it to find the lock, and open the door. Just to see if I can get the keyboard to work I try again while the door is open. Oh look at that. Now it works. So yeah, I'm not happy with that at all. According to the instructions I have to change the battery every 3 months. Not too enthusiastic about such a short battery life. Finally, I'm not at all happy about not being able to set a schedule when other people's codes are active. When I give the cleaner's code, I can't say it only works on Tuesday. Either it's always on or it's always off. It really doesn't get any better than a cheaper lock like the kwikset code lock. The overall combination of lock, connection, and keyboard is compelling, so I'll stick with it. I just hope they improve reliability. Update 01/06/2017: I would say I still have a maximum battery life of 3 months. maybe four if I was being generous. There have been several updates to the device, one of which was intended to improve battery life, but at this point it's hard to say if that helped. However, he bricked up one of my keyboards. Although the warranty swap has been going well since August. You were very nice. More importantly, has reliability improved? My answer will be. maybe a little, but almost imperceptibly. My wife still complains that she doesn't accept her code maybe every five times she uses it and I still apologize for its unreliability. 20% bounce is still a pretty big dip for me.
